Film + Alternative Process Photography

This class is for students interested in analog photography, from classic 35mm techniques, to unconventional activities like making prints on clothing, and using pinhole cameras. Students will learn the basics of darkroom photography, as well as an expanded sense of what photography can be.

All equipment will be provided by In-Sight.

This class is open to ages 11-18.

 

Intro to Digital Photography

Any Skill Level

Instructor: Kelly Fletcher

July 14th-July 18th

9am-1pm

Learn the basics of digital photography. Using DSLR cameras, Adobe editing software, and professional grade printers students will gain the basic skills in composition, the use of light, color and creative thinking. Students will also learn about contemporary photographers, take photo walks as a class, and discuss their art with other students.

All equipment will be provided by In-Sight.

This class is open to ages 11-18.

 

Sky to Sea: Animal Photography Excursions

Intermediate Level/ Prerequisite: Intro to Digital or other digital photo class

Instructors: David Erickson & Sadie Jagoda

Dates: July 21st- July 25th

Times: 9am-1pm except for Whale Watching travel day (thursday)

Join us for two wildlife photo adventures: a day photographing whales in the Atlantic Ocean, and a day in northern Vermont photographing rescued raptors and other big birds. We will take a trip to Gloucester, MA, to get close to the ocean’s largest mammals, and a day at the Vermont Institute for Natural History, to get the largest birds in our skies. Students will learn how to use digital cameras to make priceless photographs of these impressive animals.

All equipment will be provided by In-Sight.

This class is appropriate for intermediate students, and is open to ages 11-18.

 

Harnessing the Sun: Pinhole, Solargraphy, & Cyanotype

Harnessing the Sun

Any Skill Level

Instructors: Sophia DiMatteo

Dates: July 28th - August 1st

9am-1pm

From Solargraphy to Pinhole Photography to Cyanotype print making, students will learn these various photographic methods that revolve around the sun! Students will go outside to take pinhole photographs, then develop paper negatives in the darkroom and scan them in the digital lab. We will spend more time outdoors making cyanotype prints from negative transparencies (that will be provided). Some darkroom experience is helpful but not necessary. Beginners welcome!

All equipment will be provided by In-Sight.

Night Photography

Any Skill Level

Instructors: Willoughby Carlo & Rachel Distler

Dates: August 4th- August 8th

7pm-11pm

Learn how to photograph night-time landscapes, capture start-trails, and work with wild colors in this nocturnal class. Students will meet at dusk and take nightly adventures to interesting locations around Brattleboro. We will make long-exposure digital photographs that make night look as you’ve never seen it, and learn how the camera can bring bright colors out of dark places.

All equipment will be provided by In-Sight.

This class is open to ages 13-18.

 

Mountains to Moss: Photographing Natural Environments with BEEC

Any Skill Level

Instructors: Michael Zuhorski + Kelsy (BEEC)

August 11th-August 15th

9am-3pm

This class is for those interested in learning about and photographing the natural world. Each day, students will use cameras to explore notable natural environments in our region. For this class we are partnering with the Bonnyvale Environmental Education Center to give students in-depth experiences of mountaintops, winding rivers, rock-bound ponds, and more. We will take digital cameras to these places and use them to notice and photograph their intricate ecologies. This class will involve extensive hiking, environmental science, and a newfound sense of how photography can help us see the world in greater detail.

All equipment will be provided by In-Sight, and students will get to take cameras home to use on their own time.

This class is appropriate for intermediate students, and is open to ages 11-18.




Videography

Instructors: Ben Cowper

August 18th-August 22nd

9am-1pm

Make a short narrative film in this one-week intensive class. Students will work as a team to write, direct, edit, and act in their own movie. Students in this class will have opportunities to try out different roles in filmmaking, including cinematographer, writer, actor, editor, and sound designer. Class instructors will give significant guidance, but the result will be a story made totally by students.

All equipment will be provided by In-Sight.

This class is open to ages 13-18.

 

Classes are offered regardless of ability to pay, and no youth is ever turned away because of their family’s economic circumstances. Families are asked to pledge and pay what they can.
